[…]nowadays, most search engines have made it possible for Internet users to simply type a small business’s name without including an extension like .com and still get to the website they’re seeking. Just to become registry holders they had to pay an application fee of $185,000 per domain to the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, or Icann, the nonprofit that coordinates the world’s Internet domain names.
